At the most previous City Council meeting on August 6, 2026 the Harrah City Council adopted Resolution No. 08062026-1 calling for a special election in the City of Harrah, on the 3rd day of November, 2026, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of the City of Harrah the question of their approval or rejection of amendments to the charter of the City of Harrah, Oklahoma at section 6-3 to provide for four-year terms for the mayor and council members, with limitation of no more than two (2) consecutive terms to be served and providing for transition to the four-year terms to be served.
WHEREAS, the Harrah City Council determines it is in the best interest of the citizens of Harrah, Oklahoma, that elections for the Mayor and City Council members shall be for four-year terms with a limitation of no more than two (2) consecutive terms; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
The following proposition shall be submitted to the voters of Harrah, Oklahoma:
PROPOSITION NO. 1: Mayor and Council Members shall be elected for four (4) year terms, with a limitation that there shall be no more than two (2) consecutive terms for the Mayor or Council Member and further provided:
a. At the first municipal election following the expiration of the terms of the Mayor and Council Members representing Wards one (1) and three (3) who are serving on the effective date of this amendment, those Offices shall be filled for a one-time transition term of three (3) years, which will not be counted as a term for future elections.
b. Upon expiration of the one-time transition term, the Mayor and Council Members representing Wards one (1) and three (3) shall thereafter be elected to regular, four-year terms.
c. Thereafter, the Mayor and Wards one (1) and three (3) shall be elected together every four years, and Wards two (2) and four (4) shall be elected every four years, two years later.
